On June 9, Tri-Cities-area citizens are invited to take a close look at the design development of the new state-of-the-art football/ soccer Stadium and Exhibition Center, the future home of the Seattle Seahawks and site of the Pacific Northwest's premier consumer shows and exhibitions.

The Washington State Public Stadium Authority and First & Goal Inc. will host a community open house Tuesday, June 9th from 11 AM until 12:30 PM at the Doubletree Hanford House, 802 George Washington Way, Richland, WA, 99352. The latest detailed model and renderings of the $400 million voter-approved facility will be displayed. PSA Board Member Sue Frost of Kennewick and members of the project's design team and will be on hand to answer questions and discuss the design development and construction planning.

A detailed environmental impact process, required by law, was conducted by the PSA to evaluate alternative project sites. On April 30th the PSA Board selected the Kingdome/South Lot alternative that calls for construction of the project on the site of the existing Kingdome in south downtown Seattle, with the Exhibition Center and a parking garage located on the Kingdome's south parking lot. A maximum of $300 million in state funds will be invested in this project, with $100 million contributed by the private partner, First & Goal Inc., the entity created by Paul Allen to represent the interests of his NFL team, the Seahawks. Ground breaking for the first phase of construction is set for September, 1998. The Exhibition Center is scheduled to open in late 1999. The Kingdome will be demolished in early 2000, and the Stadium will open in the summer of 2002. This project is the result of Referendum 48, approved in June, 1997, by the voters of Washington.
