The Public Stadium Authority Board was pleased to receive a design presentation on the planned stadium, exhibition center, and parking garage at its public board meeting this morning. The presentation, by the architectural team of Ellerbe Becket and LMN Architects allowed the Public Stadium Authority to continue providing feedback on the proposed design that First & Goal is pursuing. "It's a design that reflects the progress that has been made in stadium design over the past 20 years," said PSA Chair Lorraine Hine. "The PSA goal is to make sure the stadium and exhibition center are designed to be functional for sports teams, comfortable for fans, and aesthetically pleasing inside and out.
When the site for the project is chosen, we'll review this proposed design in detail, with opportunities for public comment. I am confident that we can meet our goal of designing and building a world-class facility for the region to enjoy for decades to come."
The stadium's proposed design features dramatic trusses above the roof, with a
U-shaped seating bowl. The multi-purpose facility will have 72,000 seats, with approximately 70% of those under cover for football and soccer fans. The adjoining exhibition center and parking garage will provide 325,000 square feet of exhibition space and 2,000 parking spaces.
The Public Stadium Authority (PSA) will issue the Draft Environmental Impact Statement later this month, and will select a site for the project once the environmental review is complete in late April. After a site is chosen, the PSA will determine the scope of the project, and will work with First & Goal to establish the project budget.
At that time, the PSA will conduct a thorough review of the proposed design to ensure that the design meets all legislative mandates, and meets the needs of various audiences, including sports teams, exhibitors, and visitors. The PSA is the public agency created to design, build, operate, and own the new sports stadium and exhibition center authorized by the voters of Washington State last June.
